5 Simple Ways To Choose Your Perfect Niche

The best way to start is to get a pen and paper and make a list of your interests, your passions, or anything you feel you know a bit about. Once you have your list rate each entry with a number out of ten for.  Here is 5 Simple Ways To Choose Your Perfect Niche.

1. What are Your interests or passions

While you don’t want to spend forever coming up with a niche (after all, you want to get started and get right into the creation of your website), you do need to give it some careful thought and a little bit of analysis.

  • Interest level
  • Passion on the subject
  • Knowledge of the subject
  • And so on

Scratch the ones that scored the lowest combined total until you are left with 3 possible good ideas.

2. Define & Refine Your Ideas

Now that you have 2 or 3 niche ideas that really interest you, it’s time to refine them.

If your niche is broad, sure you will have endless ideas of things to both write about and promote, but you will also experience loads of competition. It also makes it much harder to focus on an interest group. You will find yourself jumping all over the place and your readers will be a little confused as to exactly what your website is all about.

Ultimately you want to target a group of people who are interested in learning about a particular thing. By that I don’t mean just one product, or one problem to be solved, but you don’t want your target market to be too broad and ambiguous.

As an example, if you chose “Health” as your niche, it is just way too broad and unfocused. True, there would be loads to write about, but unless you are a doctor or nutritionist, it’ll be very hard to establish yourself as any sort of authority on the subject.

Instead, delve into the subject deeper and find a particular segment of the health industry to focus on. You might focus on something that’s gender specific or age specific, although this is still too broad. A website about various ways to quit smoking is a targeted health niche

So, define your 3 main ideas down to groups of possible sub-niches and write these down on your list.

3. Content for your topic/niche

In order to have a successful niche website you need quality content. I won’t get right into everything about quality content here, as that’s a tutorial in itself, but you need to be able to come up with content ideas regularly and write and publish consistently.

Think about your niche ideas and scrap any that you feel you won’t have enough to write about, or won’t be able to maintain enough enthusiasm to write about regularly. Even though you want your niche to be defined, you don’t want to define it so much that your content ideas become extremely limited , and you find yourself basically write similar content for every post.

It’s also a good idea to choose a niche that can be expanded upon later if you decide to branch out after establishing your site. This will often come down to the name of your website and your domain name. Don’t choose something that locks you into an idea you can’t expand on later. As an example, if you called your site or domain “Grooming Tips for Men”, then you are locked into grooming tips for men only. It’ll then be difficult to later start writing about grooming tips for women.

4. Enough Affiliate offerings

The last thing you want to do is to settle on a niche idea, buy a domain name, build your website, fill it with quality content, then find that there are very few (if any) affiliate offerings relevant to your niche and subject matter.

So, before you settle on your niche, first do some research into what affiliate products are available for you to promote to your readers, whether they seem legitimate and reliable, and if the commissions on offer are worth your time and efforts.

At the end of the day you’re an online marketer, so you want to be able to make money from your site and all your hard work.
